Susan Boyle was on the verge of pulling out of her tour debut just moments before she was due to perform.
The 48-year-old singer was "extremely nervous" and refusing to go on stage right up until the last minute.
Stephen Mulhern, presenter of BGT's spin-off show and compere of the tour, said: "I honestly didn't know if Susan was going to go on stage right until the last minute."
Speaking after her triumphant debut on Friday night, Stephen revealed: "I was told 20 minutes before she performed that she was coming on. But when I went on stage to introduce her I was still unsure.
"I was worried I might say her name and she wouldn't be there. I think that's the way it's going to be for the rest of the tour."
